Reflection Essay Roxana Alfonso

The second presentation in my speech class was related to some disabilities. The project was related to some chapters of COMM book with those disabilities and also gave some facts about each one. The class was divided into three groups and each group was assigned two or three disabilities including five chapters of the book with the purpose of related it.

The first group discussed vision and hearing disabilities related to chapters 7, 11, 12, 13, and 14 from the COMM book. This group did amazing work since they covered each aspect of these disabilities since their limitations until their way of life. They explained how these disabled people can make an interpersonal relationship. They also gave a little review of the history of these disabilities. They created a beautiful PowerPoint in which exemplify every disability through pictures. Also, they made a very good brochure in which they resume the content of the project. Some curiosity that this group did was the investigation of some apps for IOS and Android that these people can use to facilitate their communication with other people.

The second group did their project about mobility, psychological and spinal disabilities including chapters 8,15,16, and 17. The group did extensive work in which they explain every detail about these disabilities. They covered every aspect of each chapter point by points like interpersonal communication and informative speaking between others. They did very good interviews with their classmates which have some of these disabilities to clarify some doubts about these topics. Those interviews were very interesting since they ask questions that just a person with these disabilities could answer like how their interaction with society is. This was a very instructive presentation where every student learned something new.

The third group presented cognitive, head, and invisible disabilities together with chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6. This group was the last one to present their project but was as perfect as the others. Their project fulfilled all the requirements and more. They made a wonderful presentation with PowerPoint and many images and videos. They also created a beautiful poster which could be used by some events in our school.

This was an amazing project in which PowerPoints, brochures, and posters will be used in the next disability event that our campus will do. In these projects one more time we could appreciate the effort to succeed our goals even the hard circumstances. Those were projects in which we can obtain new knowledge and clarify some doubts.

Disabilities Presentation Reflection Essay

Kelly Alvarez SPC1017 06/30/2020 Disabilities have been around for ages. A disability is defined as a mental or physical condition that limits a person’s movement, sense, or activity. Many people deal with a disability in their daily lives and find it difficult to work and deal with them. Vision Impairment

The history and documentation of visual impairments dates back to Biblical times. There are numerous references in the scriptures specific to blindness. These passages give us an insight into how visual impairments were perceived so many years ago. Clearly during this time, people with visual impairments were seen as helpless and dependent on others. The perception was that the cause of blindness could be attributed to the sin of the Father. It wasn't until 1260 that there is documentation that perceptions of people who were blind began to change. During this period there was no formal education available for those who were blind but some people developed their own literacy methods in clever ways.
