Reflection essay on Disabilities

On this group project, the class was given disabilities in order for us to research and form a presentation on the given disability. This in my opinion was an excellent subject to be given to us as a speech class. Disabilities is something that is highly occurring in our population and there is more to it than what most people think. There are many types of disabilities, ranging from: Visual, hearing, intellectual, physical, mental, autism spectrum as well as some from an acquired brain injury. Being aware of what these disabilities mean and how they affect the people that have them is a great step in the right direction to bringing our society closer. Growing up, I have had many occasions to deal with people with disabilities. My two best friends both have younger brothers with autism and seeing them grow up has informed me on how their lifestyle in unique. The child with autism is called Gustavo and he is so smart and talented. Although he has autism and has difficulties learning a...

Many people deal with a disability in their daily lives and find it difficult to work and deal with them. Thankfully there are millions of people, associations, organizations, and groups that can help with their struggles. In these presentations, our groups were asked to research and present our findings on specific disabilities and widen our understanding on the topics. To start off, my group, group 1, presented first. We were asked to research and present our findings on the vision and hearing impaired community and individuals. We dissected the project and assigned specific roles to each of our group members. In our presentation, we discussed the history, differences, social aspects, apps, associations, and interviews revolving around the hearing and vision impaired. Personally, I believe my group and ...

Disabilities Reflection by Adianet Lopez

When the word “disability” is brought up to the average person, stereotypes are always brought to mind. The topic of disabilities is not really a popular topic in our society to such an extent that most individuals are ignorant in the subject. They are not aware of the many different types of disabilities in today’s age. Such as, physical, sensory, intellectual, emotional, pervasive development, or developmental disabilities. Most are blinded to this and choose to believe stereotypes. Hence, I was really excited and glad to be given this topic for my service-learning hours in my speech class. It is an amazing way to spread awareness and positivity towards a situation that really deserves more of these two factors. Moreover, working in the disabilities department at my school has shed a lot of light on this subject for me. I have witnessed a lot of individuals who do not seem like they have disabilities but are very much diagnosed with one. However, individuals with physical disabilitie...

The first group discussed vision and hearing disabilities related to chapters 7, 11, 12, 13, and 14 from the COMM book. This group did amazing work since they covered each aspect of these disabilities since their limitations until their way of life. They explained how these disabled people can make an interpersonal relationship. They also gave a little review of the history of these disabilities. They created a beautiful PowerPoint in which exemplify every disability through pictures. Also, they made a very good brochure in which they resume the content of the project. Some curiosity that this group did was the investigation of some...
